Recycling + Sustainability at KAABOO Cayman

With all the excitement about KAABOO coming to Grand Cayman, it’s easy to forget that with all the fun comes some planet-friendly reminders. To help us spread the word on what KAABOO Cayman is doing to help the planet this February, we’ve teamed up with Kilowatt Events, the PangeaSeed Foundation, and several local experts to ensure that production is steered toward sustainable design. Who says you can’t party and take care of the planet at the same time?

KAABOO Cayman cares about our island resources, and waste is no exception. To limit our impacts, we separate waste into seven streams, but don’t panic, you only need to know three:

ALUMINUM

We’ve taken extra care to ensure that we make recycling as easy as possible while partying on Seven Mile Beach. We’d like to introduce you to Andrew, who is all about aluminum (and apparently noodles). Wherever you see Andrew, that’s where you can drop off all your aluminum cans.

PLASTICS

Another island chick to keep an eye out for is Patricia. She’s from Paris (not the one in Texas). you can leave all your plastic bottles and cups wherever you seen her. Patricia - and the planet - will appreciate your efforts.

WASTE

Whether we like it or not, some things need to be tossed in the trash. That’s where Walter comes in. He’s in charge of making sure your waste gets taken care of responsibly and in the least impactful manor possible. Wherever you find Walter is where you throw all your waste. Anything that isn’t plastic, or aluminum is waste (His phrasing, not ours).

There are plenty of ways to be sustainable besides knowing how to sort out which waste items go where. One step KAABOO Cayman is taking to help the planet is through our partnership with Natural Tableware. With their help we’re minimizing the amount of waste produced with compostable, biodegradable and recyclable plates and utensils. Through this plan we aim to reduce the impact our event has not only on Grand Cayman, but the rest of the world, too.

At KAABOO we’re all about fun in the sun, but that doesn’t mean we’ve neglected to think about how we can do so responsibly. We get it, sometimes you are in the moment and you don’t think about where you’re throwing that plastic cup, but a little goes a long way when it comes to helping the earth.
